Introduction: A Legacy of the Dark Side
Darth Sidious, portrayed by Ian McDiarmid, is the Sith Lord known for orchestrating the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. His true identity, Emperor Palpatine, would go on to control the galaxy for decades. But before Sidious rose to power, a deeper, darker influence guided his path: Darth Plagueis, the Muun Sith Lord. The relationship between Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis is one of manipulation, betrayal, and ambition.
In this tale, the Sith Code is followed ruthlessly, with mastery over the Dark Side of the Force as the ultimate goal. Sidious and Plagueis, bound by a twisted bond of teacher and student, would change the galaxy forever, even if it meant treachery and ultimate destruction.
Darth Plagueis: The Wise Master

Darth Plagueis, born as Hego Damask, was a Muun, a species known for their long, thin bodies and elongated heads. He was a Sith Lord with unmatched intelligence and a fascination with the power of immortality. Darth Plagueis believed the Dark Side of the Force held the key to cheating death itself. His mastery over the Force, particularly his ability to influence midi-chlorians and manipulate life, was unparalleled. Plagueis was also the leader of the Sith at the time, known as Darth Plagueis the Wise.
While Plagueis was extremely powerful, he did not wield a lightsaber in the traditional sense of Sith Lords. Instead, he relied heavily on his knowledge of Sith alchemy and his manipulation of the Force. The Muun used his intellect and cunning to work from the shadows, believing that true power came from controlling the unseen forces of the galaxy.
The Apprentice: Darth Sidious
Sidious was not always the towering figure of terror in the galaxy. As a young Sith Lord, Sidious was a master of subtlety, using the Force to manipulate those around him. His ambition burned brightly, and he desired power above all. Sidious sought out Darth Plagueis as his mentor, offering his services to the Muun in exchange for the knowledge that would allow him to rise in the Sith hierarchy.
Plagueis took Sidious as his apprentice, but Sidious always had his own agenda. While Plagueis sought knowledge to preserve life, Sidious’s desire was for domination. His ambition to rule the galaxy consumed him. Over time, Sidious mastered the art of deception, hiding his true intentions from his master.
The Betrayal: Sidious’s Rise to Power

The relationship between Sidious and Plagueis, as with many Sith masters and apprentices, was built on a foundation of treachery. Sidious’s ambition grew ever stronger, and he realized that to achieve his ultimate goal, he would have to eliminate Plagueis. Plagueis, deeply invested in his search for immortality, failed to see the signs.
Sidious took advantage of this blindness, planning and executing his betrayal. One night, after a long day of lessons, Sidious assassinated his master, plunging a blade deep into the heart of Darth Plagueis.
The betrayal was so perfect, so final, that it caught even Plagueis off guard. As Sidious stood over his master’s corpse, the galaxy’s fate was sealed. With Plagueis’s death, Sidious took control of the Sith, starting the final phase of his grand plan. The apprentice had become the master.
Darth Sidious: Master of the Dark Side
Sidious, now the Dark Lord of the Sith, went on to execute his plan to destroy the Jedi Order and seize control of the Republic. Using his political genius and mastery of manipulation, Sidious transformed into Emperor Palpatine. His rise to power was swift, and the galaxy fell under his rule.
Sidious wielded a red-bladed lightsaber, the symbol of the Sith. His fighting style, proficient in Form II (Makashi) and Form V (Shien), reflected his deep understanding of the art of lightsaber combat. Sidious was known for his aggressive yet fluid fighting technique. He was a master of Force lightning, using it to devastate enemies. Sidious’s skill in manipulating the Force, combined with his lightsaber prowess, made him a terrifying opponent.
Legacy of Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis

The legacy of Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis lives on through the Empire and beyond. Sidious’s manipulation of the Sith teachings reshaped the galaxy, leaving behind the Empire, the Sith, and the rise of new Sith Lords. His teachings were carried on to his apprentice, Darth Vader, and later to Darth Maul and others. Sidious’s manipulation of Plagueis’s research on immortality also had lasting effects. Plagueis’s work with midi-chlorians was revisited in the future by other Sith Lords.
In many ways, the story of Sidious and Plagueis mirrors the eternal struggle of the Sith: the drive for power, the pursuit of knowledge, and the inevitable betrayal that defines Sith relationships. Even though Plagueis’s body fell to Sidious’s blade, the lessons taught by the wise Muun would echo in the galaxy for generations.
Through cunning, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of the Dark Side, the Sith Lords Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis changed the galaxy, their legacies forever intertwined in the darkest of ways.
