The First Order’s Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie, was a commanding figure. With a polished chrome stormtrooper armor and ruthless leadership, Phasma led the First Order’s stormtroopers with precision. On the other side of the war, Rey, a scavenger from Jakku, discovered a connection to the Force and embarked on a journey to fight the darkness threatening the galaxy. Both characters were set on opposing paths, yet their direct conflict remained brief. The potential for a true rivalry between them never fully materialized.

Phasma’s Rise in the First Order

Born on the harsh planet of Parnassos, Phasma survived brutal conditions and became a fierce warrior. The First Order saw potential and offered a place among its ranks. Rising through the stormtrooper corps, Phasma trained generations of soldiers, enforcing loyalty and discipline. Unlike standard stormtroopers, Phasma wielded a unique command and carried an SE-44C blaster pistol. A cold and calculating officer, Phasma prioritized power and order over everything.

The fall of the Empire created a power vacuum, allowing the First Order to grow in the shadows. Supreme Leader Snoke guided its expansion, using leaders like General Hux and Kylo Ren to impose fear. Phasma played a key role in ensuring that stormtroopers remained the backbone of this new military force. The training programs under Phasma’s leadership turned recruits into obedient soldiers, eliminating any signs of individuality.

Rey’s Emergence as a Force User

On Jakku, Rey lived in isolation, scavenging for parts to trade for food. The discovery of BB-8 and an old lightsaber sparked a journey beyond the desert wastelands. A hidden strength within Rey began to surface, drawing the attention of both the Resistance and the First Order. Kylo Ren sensed this awakening, believing Rey could be an asset or a threat.

Rey’s initial encounters with the First Order did not involve Phasma directly. The focus remained on Kylo Ren’s pursuit and the larger conflict between the Resistance and the First Order. However, both Phasma and Rey represented different aspects of the war. One was shaped by military discipline, while the other relied on instinct and self-discovery.

The Starkiller Base Confrontation

During the battle on Starkiller Base, Finn, once a stormtrooper under Phasma’s command, returned to confront the officer who had enforced his training. With Han Solo and Chewbacca, Finn captured Phasma and forced the First Order’s security codes out of the captain. The confrontation ended with Phasma being thrown into a garbage chute, sidelining the character before a real battle could unfold.

Rey, meanwhile, was locked in a separate struggle, dueling Kylo Ren for the first time. Phasma and Rey never crossed paths during this battle, missing a moment that could have set up an ongoing rivalry. Phasma’s presence remained distant, with no personal investment in the growing power of the scavenger from Jakku.

The Brief Clash on the Supremacy

The First Order’s flagship, the Supremacy, became the final battleground between Phasma and Finn. In a duel filled with tension, Phasma displayed superior combat skills but underestimated Finn’s determination. The ship crumbled around them as Finn landed a decisive blow, sending Phasma to a fiery demise.

Rey was absent from this fight. While the battle between Phasma and Finn resolved their conflict, a similar dynamic between Phasma and Rey never developed. The opportunity for a rivalry between a powerful First Order commander and a rising Jedi remained unexplored.

A Rivalry That Never Was

Phasma and Rey stood on opposite sides of the war. One was a symbol of the First Order’s strength, while the other represented the hope of the Resistance. A rivalry between them could have highlighted the clash between authority and defiance. Their paths, however, barely intersected.

Phasma’s role focused on maintaining order within the First Order’s ranks, while Rey’s journey revolved around discovering the Force and challenging Kylo Ren. Without a direct connection, their potential conflict faded into the larger battle between the Resistance and the First Order.

Legacy of Captain Phasma

Despite a limited role, Phasma’s influence within the First Order left a mark on the war. Stormtroopers remained loyal and disciplined under the structure Phasma helped build. The legacy of the captain continued in various records and stories, painting a picture of an enforcer who demanded absolute obedience.

Rey’s story continued beyond the fall of the First Order, but Phasma’s chapter ended with the destruction of the Supremacy. The missed rivalry between them remained a question of what could have been, leaving an untold battle in the shadows of the war.
